Venous Disease is an impairment of blood flow back to the heart.
Causes are:
- Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) – blood clot in veins
- Varicose Veins – dilated, thickened, elongated, and twisted vessels that do not properly control blood flow
- Both of these can restrict or totally obstruct blood flow
Symptoms to watch for:
- aching
- easily tired legs
- heaviness in the legs
- swelling
- skin changes – darkening or developing a rash like area
- numbness
Treatment options:
- Sclerotherapy – injecting veins with a solution which causes the vein to close
- Microsclerothtrapy – similar to sclerotherapy, but uses different techniques, especially effective with spider veins
- Endovenous Laser Therapy (EVLT) – a thin catheter is placedĀ caused the vein, then head is applied through the catheter causing the vein to collapse – most often used to treat larger varicosities
